7 Days To Die: All Zombie Types Explained

In the post-apocalyptic world of 7 Days To Die, zombies are the constant threat. Players encounter them while exploring, inside buildings, and during Blood Moon hordes. There are 34 distinct zombie types in the game (excluding Feral and Radiated variants), grouped into four categories: Normal, Armored, Special, and Zombie Animals.

Beyond these categories, almost every zombie type can appear as a Feral or Radiated variant. Feral zombies are identifiable by their glowing yellow eyes and gain increased speed, damage, and resistance to damage and knockback. Radiated zombies, with their bright green bodies, have the same enhancements plus health regeneration over time.

Normal zombies are the most common and appear in all biomes and building types. They have no special abilities and are easily dispatched, but their strength lies in numbers and the potential to inflict status effects like broken bones.

Armored zombies have higher health and damage, and their armor reduces incoming damage by approximately 20 percent unless using armor-piercing (AP) ammo or weapons. Some, like the Zombie Biker, wear helmets that further reduce headshot effectiveness.

Special zombies are the most dangerous category. Each has unique appearance and abilities, such as spitting acid or setting fires. They often appear in groups during Blood Moon events or high-tier jobs, posing a serious threat to unprepared survivors.

Zombie animals form the final category. They share unique stats and resistances, have a higher chance to cause Infection, and are not slowed during the daytime. This makes them particularly hazardous for players caught in the open. Understanding these categories and variant states is essential for effective combat and base defense, as each type demands a tailored approach to survive the apocalypse.
