Resident Evil Requiem: Leon’s Hot Uncle Design

Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Requiem brings back Leon Kennedy as a playable character, but this is not the young rookie from Resident Evil 2 or even the hardened agent of Resident Evil 6. Now 48 years old, Leon has been redesigned to look like a seasoned veteran whose years of experience have only added to his appeal. Japanese fans quickly dubbed him an “ikeoji” (hot uncle), and the reaction from global audiences has been equally enthusiastic about his mature good looks.

A Mature Leon

Director Koshi Nakanishi revealed that Capcom spent “quite a lot of time” refining Leon’s features, down to small details such as the wrinkles on his neck. The development team assembled an unofficial group of female employees who closely reviewed the visual design, offering strict feedback to ensure Leon aged in a way that felt both realistic and attractive. Nakanishi noted, “Leon has many fans among Capcom employees, and women in particular were pretty strict when reviewing his design. They would point out and comment on even the finest details, like the wrinkles on his neck.” The resulting look has drawn praise from fans, with one female fan telling Nakanishi that the women developers at Capcom “did a really good job.”
