SUMMARY:Sunday Morning Meditations for a more Peaceful Life Organized by Maitreya Institute - Foundation for Developing Compassion and Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Morning Meditations for a more Peaceful Life Organized by Maitreya Institute“Many people think excitement is happiness…. But when you are excited you are not peaceful. True happiness is based on peace.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh\nAbout the Sessions\nJoin us on Sunday morning for an hour to pause\, center\, and restore to a happier and more peaceful mind to support you in being a bit more resilient in a world which does not always make sense anymore. These guided meditations are to help you calm your mind\, explore your own nature and develop a more peaceful perception on life. When you are well with yourself\, you will be more able to be well with others and the world.\nThese meditations are very practical\, they are not within a religious context\, so they are suitable for people of different beliefs\, ages and abilities\, for beginners as well as for those with more experience.\nRegistrations are not required.\nWhat are the meditations based on?\nThey are based on a set of values and principles aimed at helping individuals cultivate a more peaceful and meaningful life. They are divided into four categories:\nhow we think (humility\, patience\, contentment and delight)\nhow we act (kindness\, honesty\, generosity and right speech)\nhow we relate to others (respect\, forgiveness\, gratitude and loyalty)\nhow we find meaning (aspiration\, principles\, service and courage).\nThese guidelines provide a framework for personal growth\, encouraging individuals to think\, act\, relate\, and find meaning in ways that foster a harmonious and fulfilling life.\nHow to Join\nThe sessions are offered online:\nTIME: 10.00 – 11.00 am CE(S)T\,\nDATES: Sundays from 19th January – 4th May 2025\nONLINE: Join Zoom here – Passcode: 353076\nThe meditations are freely offered but if you would like to make to support Maitreya Institute\, please make a donation using this link . The meditations will be recorded and made available to you to use them during the week. Please send us an email if you would like to join us to get access to the recordings.\nWhy meditate?\nWhen you control your mind with wisdom you create the space you need to discover peace and joy. Your life then becomes peaceful and joyful and somewhat protected from the ups and downs of the external world. For beginner to advanced meditators.\nFacilitator\nVen. Gönpo is an accredited FDCW facilitator and a Buddhist monk based in Australia. He discovered Buddhism as a child through martial arts movies and TV shows\, this was the inspiration for the childhood dream of becoming a wandering kung fu monk. It was a few decades before part of that dream could be realized with many other life adventures distracting him from the spiritual path in his teens and twenties.\nIt wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Gönpo began to really understand the power of Buddhist teachings when he used them to navigate the emotional roller-coaster of life’s many experiences such as a marriage break down and raising children alone. Fortunately\, due the kindness of his teachers and great good karma\, after his children finished school\, Gönpo was able to fulfil the long-held dream of becoming a monk\, albeit without the kung fu. Ending a 20-year career as a high school teacher of languages\, he become a wandering monk spending time studying and meditating in Europe\, India and Nepal before returning to his hometown\, Brisbane\, to take up the role of Spiritual Care Practitioner at Karuna Hospice Services\, giving care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families.\nIn his time as a school teacher\, it was the feedback from students around mindfulness practices and life lessons that had the biggest impact on Gönpo\, motivating him to become a 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life facilitator. In his sessions\, Gönpo encourages discussion and deep engagement in the topics\, challenging participants to examine their own ways of thinking. Through understanding how we are now\, we are better equipped to develop the habits that will bring us closer to how we want to be\, interacting with our own minds and the people around us in ways that will make us and the communities we live in\, happier and healthier.\nMore info\nFor more information please visit the Maitreya Institute website

SUMMARY:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre« All Events\nMedicine Buddha Puja\nJune 19 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm\nAbout Medicine Buddha Puja\nIn Person Only\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting.\nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”.\nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!\nWe use cookies on our website to give you the most relevant experience by remembering your preferences and repeat visits.

DESCRIPTION:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre« All Events\nDiscovering Buddhism\nJune 23 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm\nDiscovering Buddhism is an FPMT Buddhist Study Programme on the fundamental aspects of the Buddhist path.\nWhy Discovering Buddhism?\nBuddhist teachings are vast. They encompass various lineages and transmissions\, enormous scriptural cannons\, ancient commentarial traditions and an array of subject matter that includes philosophy\, psychology and practice.\nMaking sense of this ocean of knowledge can be intimidating. Fortunately\, the master\, Atisha systematised the essential elements into a navigable map\, outlined in the order they are to be practiced by a student of Buddhism.\nDiscovering Buddhism\, a course developed by FPMT\, uses this sophisticated approach (known as Lam Rim) as its basis\, giving students a complete picture of the Buddhist path and how its components fit together.\nHow to join?\nThe next cycle of the “Discovering Buddhism” programme is just around the corner\, scheduled for May 2025.\nPlease sign up to the Jamyang newsletter to be notified of when registration opens.\n“Discovering Buddhism” class of 2022-2023.\nGeshe Tenzin Namdak\, Resident Teacher of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre.\nAbout the Teacher\nOur courses and classes on Buddhist philosophy and practice rely on a skilled teacher to bring them to life. We’re extremely fortunate to have a supremely qualified Resident Teacher to do just that.\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College.\nFew people can combine this extensive Buddhist education with rigorous scientific training. The result is Geshe Tenzin Namdak’s unique teaching style\, which is at once incisive\, clear\, warm and humorous.\nA mural of Lama Atisha\, originator of the Lam Rim textual tradition.\nThe Syllabus\n1. Mind and Its Potential	6. All About Karma	11. Transforming Problems\n2. How to Meditate	7. Refuge in the Three Jewels	12. Wisdom of Emptiness\n3. Presenting the Path	8. SUMMARY:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist CentreJoin us as we embark upon a 3-month exploration of this famous text. Guided by Geshe Tenzin Namdak\, we will delve into Arya Nagarjuna’s poetic instructions that convey the entire Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery.\nAbout the Author\nArya Nagarjuna (2nd-3rd century) is widely regarded as the second Buddha and the trailblazer of the Madhyamika school of Buddhist philosophy. His coming was prophesied by Shakyamuni himself as the teacher who would appear when the karma of beings was ripe\, to expound and clarify the Buddha’s profound teaching on emptiness.\nAbout the Text\nLetter to a Friend is a poem composed by Nagarjuna as a letter of advice to his friend\, King Gautamiputra\, who presided over the powerful kingdom of Satvahana. The Letter is a concise and comprehensive introduction to the entire path and practice of Buddhism. Widely studied by both lay and monastic\, the instructions therein are of special interest to those who wish to take up spiritual activity while continuing to live and work in society; they are meant to convey the whole meaning of the Dharma to the ordinary person in a language and style that are easy to understand. Despite its short length (123 verses)\, it covers the whole Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery; thus it is widely quoted by Tibet’s great masters and scholars in the many commentaries they have written on the Buddhist path.\nAbout the Teacher\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College. He is now Resident Teacher of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre.\nSchedule\nStarting on 6th May and running until the 22nd July\, 2025\nTuesday evenings | 18:30 – 20:00\nHow to join\nRegistration for the short course on Nagarjuna’s Letter to a Friend hasn’t opened yet but if you let us know your name and email address we’ll contact you when it does. SUMMARY:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist CentreAbout this series\nWednesday evenings at Jamyang are dedicated to courses in advanced philosophy. Join our Resident Teacher\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak\, as he helps us investigate the finer points of the philosophy of emptiness and the Buddhist understanding of the nature of reality from various perspectives\, and through the works of the great Buddhist scholars of the past.\nAbout this course\nOver two years\, we’ll embark on a profound voyage through a text of incomparable stature within the Buddhist cannon: Entering the Middle Way\, by the revered master\, Chandrakirti. We are often reminded by Geshe Namdak that His Holiness the Dalai Lama reads Chandrakirti every day\, a clear testament to the indispensability of his work for all Buddhist practitioners training in the Nalanda tradition.\nIn Entering the Middle Way\, Chandrakirti interprets and upholds Nagarjuna’s philosophical position as put forward in his root text on wisdom\, while drawing upon the structure of the Ten Grounds Sutra to supplement this analysis of the nature of reality with an exposition of the bodhisattva grounds\, or the stages of realisation a practitioner must traverse on the way to enlightenment. Chandrakirti\, therefore\, ‘enters’ Nagarjuna’s text by way of the profound view\, as well as the vast activities of the bodhisattva. The comprehensive treatment of both method and wisdom\, as well as Chandrakirti’s formidable scholarship\, are just a couple of the reasons why Entering the Middle Way has endured as one of the most prized treasures of the Nalanda tradition.\nGeshe Namdak will open the door to this text and reveal its many riches to us over the span of two years. It goes without saying that this is a very special and rare opportunity\, which we are delighted to share with you. Please join us on what we anticipate will be an incredibly meaningful journey.\nAbout Geshe Tenzin Namdak\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College.
