SUMMARY:Sunday Morning Meditations for a more Peaceful Life Organized by Maitreya Institute - Foundation for Developing Compassion and Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Morning Meditations for a more Peaceful Life Organized by Maitreya Institute“Many people think excitement is happiness…. But when you are excited you are not peaceful. True happiness is based on peace.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh\nAbout the Sessions\nJoin us on Sunday morning for an hour to pause\, center\, and restore to a happier and more peaceful mind to support you in being a bit more resilient in a world which does not always make sense anymore. These guided meditations are to help you calm your mind\, explore your own nature and develop a more peaceful perception on life. When you are well with yourself\, you will be more able to be well with others and the world.\nThese meditations are very practical\, they are not within a religious context\, so they are suitable for people of different beliefs\, ages and abilities\, for beginners as well as for those with more experience.\nRegistrations are not required.\nWhat are the meditations based on?\nThey are based on a set of values and principles aimed at helping individuals cultivate a more peaceful and meaningful life. They are divided into four categories:\nhow we think (humility\, patience\, contentment and delight)\nhow we act (kindness\, honesty\, generosity and right speech)\nhow we relate to others (respect\, forgiveness\, gratitude and loyalty)\nhow we find meaning (aspiration\, principles\, service and courage).\nThese guidelines provide a framework for personal growth\, encouraging individuals to think\, act\, relate\, and find meaning in ways that foster a harmonious and fulfilling life.\nHow to Join\nThe sessions are offered online:\nTIME: 10.00 – 11.00 am CE(S)T\,\nDATES: Sundays from 19th January – 4th May 2025\nONLINE: Join Zoom here – Passcode: 353076\nThe meditations are freely offered but if you would like to make to support Maitreya Institute\, please make a donation using this link . The meditations will be recorded and made available to you to use them during the week. Please send us an email if you would like to join us to get access to the recordings.\nWhy meditate?\nWhen you control your mind with wisdom you create the space you need to discover peace and joy. Your life then becomes peaceful and joyful and somewhat protected from the ups and downs of the external world. For beginner to advanced meditators.\nFacilitator\nVen. Gönpo is an accredited FDCW facilitator and a Buddhist monk based in Australia. He discovered Buddhism as a child through martial arts movies and TV shows\, this was the inspiration for the childhood dream of becoming a wandering kung fu monk. It was a few decades before part of that dream could be realized with many other life adventures distracting him from the spiritual path in his teens and twenties.\nIt wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Gönpo began to really understand the power of Buddhist teachings when he used them to navigate the emotional roller-coaster of life’s many experiences such as a marriage break down and raising children alone. Fortunately\, due the kindness of his teachers and great good karma\, after his children finished school\, Gönpo was able to fulfil the long-held dream of becoming a monk\, albeit without the kung fu. Ending a 20-year career as a high school teacher of languages\, he become a wandering monk spending time studying and meditating in Europe\, India and Nepal before returning to his hometown\, Brisbane\, to take up the role of Spiritual Care Practitioner at Karuna Hospice Services\, giving care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families.\nIn his time as a school teacher\, it was the feedback from students around mindfulness practices and life lessons that had the biggest impact on Gönpo\, motivating him to become a 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life facilitator. In his sessions\, Gönpo encourages discussion and deep engagement in the topics\, challenging participants to examine their own ways of thinking. Through understanding how we are now\, we are better equipped to develop the habits that will bring us closer to how we want to be\, interacting with our own minds and the people around us in ways that will make us and the communities we live in\, happier and healthier.\nMore info\nFor more information please visit the Maitreya Institute website

SUMMARY:Series of 8 Nyung Nays
DESCRIPTION:Nyung Nay (or “Fasting Retreat” in English) is a Vajrayana practice from the Kriya (“Action”) class of Tantra. It is a powerful\, quick and effective method to purify a lot of negativities and at the same time collect a vast amount of merit. Meditators of the past have been known to purify such diseases as leprosy through this practice. However\, the principal purpose of the practice is the attainment of supreme Enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings.\nJust before the annual Tibetan festival of Saka Dawa (the anniversary of Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth\, enlightenment and paranirvana) Tushita offers a series of eight Nyung Nays. Participants may join one or more Nyung Nays. \nNyung NaysOne Nyung Nay requires being resident here for 3 nights\, in order to incorporate 2 full practice days. Check in on day 1\, days 2 & 3 are the practice days\, and if you are not continuing for another Nyung Nay\, checkout is on day 4. \nEach Nyung Nay consists of 7 practice sessions spread over this time\, the first starting at 3:30am on day 2 (which is why you have to stay here the night before) and ending after breakfast on the 4th day. Our Nyung Nay Retreat is composed of a cycle of 8 Nyung Nays\, and it is possible to take just one\, or any number in between up to all 8! \nIf you haven’t done this practice before though\, you will be required to join the first one where full instruction will be given. \nIn each session we practice the sadhana (“method of accomplishment”) of Chenrezig\, the Buddha symbolizing compassion. The sadhana involves meditating on bodhicitta (the aspiration to attain enlightenment in order to help all beings)\, visualizing Chenrezig\, reciting prayers and mantras\, and performing prostrations. Each session lasts approximately 3 hours.

SUMMARY:Awakening the Warrior Within: Lojong and How It Inspires Everyday Enlightened Engagement
Incorporating Chenrezig (the Buddha of Infinite Compassion) practice along with meditation on the famous lojong prayer\, The Eight Verses of Mind Training by Geshe Langri Thangpa\, this precious retreat experience can help lend support to life’s greatest challenges. Discussion and tonglen meditation will be included along with some exercises using Master Atisha’s 59 slogans. These different practices can serve as a powerful blueprint for practicing the bodhisattva path in the future. \nThe retreat is open to all levels and there is no prerequisite. \nVenerable Amy has a gift to make Buddhist teachings very practical and explain how to use them in daily life. We rejoice to be once more able to listen to her and practice with her. \nVenerable Amy J. Miller (Ven. SUMMARY:Make Your Mind an Ocean led by Venerable Thubten Wangdu
DESCRIPTION:3-day non-residential course led by Venerable Thubten WangduOpen to all levels of practitioners: beginners and experienced alike. \n“Look into your mind; when your mind is narrow\, small things easily agitate you. Therefore\, make your mind an ocean.” – Lama Yeshe \nBuddhism aims to provide a method for us to become more genuinely happy human beings — to cultivate a sense of inner contentment that is lasting. This derives from clearly seeing how things are. From the Buddhist perspective\, our repeated experiences of dissatisfaction and frustration do not have external conditions as their root cause; all mental problems come from the mind. Therefore\, if we aspire for true satisfaction in our lives we have to investigate and recognise the nature of the mind and discover how our minds interpret reality.

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Art of Thangka
DESCRIPTION:A delightful workshop with renowned Thangka painter Carmen Mensink“The Tibetan Thangka is a Mirror of the mind. “ – Happinez Magazine \nWhat is a Thangka?\nThangkas are Buddhist scroll paintings of such things as Buddhas and Mandalas\, painted according to an ancient Tibetan tradition. \nWhy are Tibetan Thangkas drawn & painted?\nA thangka is more than just art; it opens a window to spirituality by combining craftsmanship with deep symbolism\, clarifying the path to enlightenment. Every detail on a thangka tells a story\, inviting people to reflect and grow. \nCarmen about the process of painting a thangka (in Happinez Magazine): De Tibetaanse Thangka – Spiegel van de geest \nWhat can I expect on this day?\nThis day consists of a guided meditation\, lecture on the Art of Thangka and a meditative workshop\, in which you will learn to draw a Buddha face yourself according to the ancient proportions that serve as a basis. \nCarmen inspires and guides each at his own level (you don’t have to have any drawing experience) and will also explain the iconography and symbolism behind your drawing. \nWho is this introductory day for?\nFor anyone interested in the symbolism of the Buddha\nFor those who want to deepen their (Buddhist) practice. We have seen that most people who begin thangka drawing have no drawing experience at all. 😁 \nWhat do others say about the workshop?\n“Drawing the Face of Buddha had something exciting\, surprising and comforting.” \n“Drawing a thangka is a meditation for me.” \n“Your great wealth of knowledge and skill is evident in the fact of what you offer and show us all. It’s not just any class you teach\, but everything you say\, you stand behind it. I thank you for your commitment\, your encouragement and your enthusiasm.” \nWho is Carmen Mensink?\nCarmen lives and works in Amsterdam and paints and teaches Tibetan Buddhist art & philosophy. She has been teaching and lecturing at museums\, universities and centers around the world for over twenty years. She also restores thangkas and gilds and paints Buddha statues. In addition\, she can be found in dozens of publications. \nThe enthusiasm and dedication Carmen expresses in her teachings have already guided and inspired thousands of people on the path of Buddhist art. \nCarmen is also in demand for related forms of Tibetan art\, including the meter-long floor paintings of the “Eight Lucky Symbols” she created to welcome the Dalai Lama to the Netherlands. SUMMARY:How to Practice in Daily Life – A Guide to Infinite Happiness
DESCRIPTION:This special 10-day residential course is open to all levels of practitioners: beginners and experienced alike.\nWe are extremely honoured and delighted that Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche accepted our request to give His first 10-day course at Tushita! \n“We don’t know how to bring the Lam Rim\, the stages of the path to enlightenment\, into everyday life. There is a lot of doubt about it that we need to clear out. \nMost important is\, when we say Lam Rim in day to day life\, to get people interested in this topic\, to clear the doubts about it. The doubts that the Lam Rim is too long\, too hard and it takes time forever. So we need to go little by little\, very gently\, very softly. \nSometimes some people\, many people\, think that Lam Rim is a gelugpa practice\, but then they want to find another practice which is easier or more down to the core of the Buddhist teachings\, like a shortcut and more profound. But the bad news is that they don’t find it! \nSo (in this course) we will go through some parts of the Lam Rim and discuss them. Maybe we go through some lines from Lam Rim Chenmo* and then we can go freestyle as well.” \n– Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche on the auspicious occasion of Lhabab Düchen\, on November 22\, 2024. \n*The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment by Lama Tsongkhapa

SUMMARY:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for June 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre« All Events\nMedicine Buddha Puja\nJune 5 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm\nAbout Medicine Buddha Puja\nIn Person Only\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting.\nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”.\nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!\nWe use cookies on our website to give you the most relevant experience by remembering your preferences and repeat visits.
