Your life then becomes peaceful and joyful and somewhat protected from the ups and downs of the external world. For beginner to advanced meditators.\nFacilitator\nVen. Gönpo is an accredited FDCW facilitator and a Buddhist monk based in Australia. He discovered Buddhism as a child through martial arts movies and TV shows\, this was the inspiration for the childhood dream of becoming a wandering kung fu monk. It was a few decades before part of that dream could be realized with many other life adventures distracting him from the spiritual path in his teens and twenties.\nIt wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Gönpo began to really understand the power of Buddhist teachings when he used them to navigate the emotional roller-coaster of life’s many experiences such as a marriage break down and raising children alone. Fortunately\, due the kindness of his teachers and great good karma\, after his children finished school\, Gönpo was able to fulfil the long-held dream of becoming a monk\, albeit without the kung fu. Ending a 20-year career as a high school teacher of languages\, he become a wandering monk spending time studying and meditating in Europe\, India and Nepal before returning to his hometown\, Brisbane\, to take up the role of Spiritual Care Practitioner at Karuna Hospice Services\, giving care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families.\nIn his time as a school teacher\, it was the feedback from students around mindfulness practices and life lessons that had the biggest impact on Gönpo\, motivating him to become a 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life facilitator. In his sessions\, Gönpo encourages discussion and deep engagement in the topics\, challenging participants to examine their own ways of thinking. Guided by Geshe Tenzin Namdak\, we will delve into Arya Nagarjuna’s poetic instructions that convey the entire Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery.\nAbout the Author\nArya Nagarjuna (2nd-3rd century) is widely regarded as the second Buddha and the trailblazer of the Madhyamika school of Buddhist philosophy. His coming was prophesied by Shakyamuni himself as the teacher who would appear when the karma of beings was ripe\, to expound and clarify the Buddha’s profound teaching on emptiness.\nAbout the Text\nLetter to a Friend is a poem composed by Nagarjuna as a letter of advice to his friend\, King Gautamiputra\, who presided over the powerful kingdom of Satvahana. The Letter is a concise and comprehensive introduction to the entire path and practice of Buddhism. Widely studied by both lay and monastic\, the instructions therein are of special interest to those who wish to take up spiritual activity while continuing to live and work in society; they are meant to convey the whole meaning of the Dharma to the ordinary person in a language and style that are easy to understand. DESCRIPTION:Lojong Mind TrainingHow its application can help us prepare for death and difficult times with confidence and compassion\n“Happiness should be brought under control\, and suffering ended. If you are lonely\, it will be the companion of sorrow. If you are sick\, it will nurse you.” – saying of the Kadam Lamas.  \nLojong or ‘mind training’ is an essential part of Buddhist training that teaches us how to transform problems into opportunities for deep spiritual growth. Ven. Amy will explore how lojong practices can help us lessen fear\, regret and confusion in times of adversity; so this program will not only help us prepare for the major transition of death\, but will also show us how we can develop a more peaceful and meaningful life.  \n“In our heart we do not think death will happen to us. Living in denial we spend our lives in distraction filling each available moment with constant busyness.”- Geshe Jampa Tegchok \nThis 4-session course will incorporate a variety of lojong texts such as the profound yet brief\, Turning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment\, by Jikme Tenpe Nyime\, the Third Drodupchen Rinpoche and The Eight Verses of Thought Transformation by Kadampa Geshe Langri Thangpa.  \nAdditionally\, lojong practice helps us: \nCultivate mental resilience\nDevelop compassion\nShift focus from external blame to self-reflection and accountability\nReduce anxiety\, increase inner peace\, and develop healthier behavior overall.\nVen.
