SUMMARY:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre« All Events\nDiscovering Buddhism\nMay 12 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm\nDiscovering Buddhism is an FPMT Buddhist Study Programme on the fundamental aspects of the Buddhist path.\nWhy Discovering Buddhism?\nBuddhist teachings are vast. They encompass various lineages and transmissions\, enormous scriptural cannons\, ancient commentarial traditions and an array of subject matter that includes philosophy\, psychology and practice.\nMaking sense of this ocean of knowledge can be intimidating. Fortunately\, the master\, Atisha systematised the essential elements into a navigable map\, outlined in the order they are to be practiced by a student of Buddhism.\nDiscovering Buddhism\, a course developed by FPMT\, uses this sophisticated approach (known as Lam Rim) as its basis\, giving students a complete picture of the Buddhist path and how its components fit together.\nHow to join?\nThe next cycle of the “Discovering Buddhism” programme is just around the corner\, scheduled for May 2025.\nPlease sign up to the Jamyang newsletter to be notified of when registration opens.\n“Discovering Buddhism” class of 2022-2023.\nGeshe Tenzin Namdak\, Resident Teacher of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre.\nAbout the Teacher\nOur courses and classes on Buddhist philosophy and practice rely on a skilled teacher to bring them to life. We’re extremely fortunate to have a supremely qualified Resident Teacher to do just that.\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College.\nFew people can combine this extensive Buddhist education with rigorous scientific training. The result is Geshe Tenzin Namdak’s unique teaching style\, which is at once incisive\, clear\, warm and humorous.\nA mural of Lama Atisha\, originator of the Lam Rim textual tradition.\nThe Syllabus\n1. Mind and Its Potential	6. All About Karma	11. Transforming Problems\n2. How to Meditate	7. Refuge in the Three Jewels	12. Wisdom of Emptiness\n3. Presenting the Path	8. Establishing a Daily Practice	13. Introduction to Tantra\n4. The Spiritual Teacher	9. Samsara and Nirvana	14. Special Integration Experiences\n5. Death and Rebirth	10. How to Develop Bodhicitta\nSchedule\nTeachings will take place on Monday evenings from 18:30\, interspersed with review classes led by Teaching Assistants\, except during break months.\nWe use cookies on our website to give you the most relevant experience by remembering your preferences and repeat visits. SUMMARY:The Precious Garland of the Sublime Path: The Oral Instructions of Lord Gampopa
DESCRIPTION:4 Sundays with Geshe Lhakdor – open to all levels of practitioners: beginners and experienced alike.\nOnline Event only! \nThank you to our FPMT sister center Shantideva New York for organising and hosting this special course with Geshe Lhakdor la. We are delighted to co-host it together with our sister centers Jamyang Buddhist Centre\, London and Tushita Mahayana Meditation Centre\, Delhi. \n“The Precious Garland of the Sublime Path is\, in general\, a condensation of the complete key points of all levels of Buddhist training. More particularly\, it contains oral instructions that can reach our very hearts and reveal our hidden faults.” — Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche \nThe Precious Garland of the Sublime Path is an essential guide to Buddhist practice\, covering the main ideas of Buddhist training from the fundamental tenets to the most subtle points. Crafted by the renowned 12th-century master Gampopa\, a disciple of the legendary Milarepa\, these oral instructions weave together explanations of Buddhist sutras with the profound meditation instructions of Mahamudra. \nTrue to the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism\, it is structured as a set of 28 memorable lists. Those who contemplate their meaning will uncover valuable truths about their own spiritual journeys\, including: \nTen Things to Persevere In\nTen Things to Inspire Yourself\nTen Ways to Destroy Yourself\nDelve into the deeper meanings of this beautiful composition with Geshe Lhakdor and experience the teachings in their original lineage\, just as they were intended.

SUMMARY:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre« All Events\nMedicine Buddha Puja\nMay 8 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm\nAbout Medicine Buddha Puja\nIn Person Only\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting.\nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”.\nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!\nWe use cookies on our website to give you the most relevant experience by remembering your preferences and repeat visits. SUMMARY:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist CentreAbout this series\nWednesday evenings at Jamyang are dedicated to courses in advanced philosophy. Join our Resident Teacher\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak\, as he helps us investigate the finer points of the philosophy of emptiness and the Buddhist understanding of the nature of reality from various perspectives\, and through the works of the great Buddhist scholars of the past.\nAbout this course\nOver two years\, we’ll embark on a profound voyage through a text of incomparable stature within the Buddhist cannon: Entering the Middle Way\, by the revered master\, Chandrakirti. We are often reminded by Geshe Namdak that His Holiness the Dalai Lama reads Chandrakirti every day\, a clear testament to the indispensability of his work for all Buddhist practitioners training in the Nalanda tradition.\nIn Entering the Middle Way\, Chandrakirti interprets and upholds Nagarjuna’s philosophical position as put forward in his root text on wisdom\, while drawing upon the structure of the Ten Grounds Sutra to supplement this analysis of the nature of reality with an exposition of the bodhisattva grounds\, or the stages of realisation a practitioner must traverse on the way to enlightenment. Chandrakirti\, therefore\, ‘enters’ Nagarjuna’s text by way of the profound view\, as well as the vast activities of the bodhisattva. The comprehensive treatment of both method and wisdom\, as well as Chandrakirti’s formidable scholarship\, are just a couple of the reasons why Entering the Middle Way has endured as one of the most prized treasures of the Nalanda tradition.\nGeshe Namdak will open the door to this text and reveal its many riches to us over the span of two years. It goes without saying that this is a very special and rare opportunity\, which we are delighted to share with you. Please join us on what we anticipate will be an incredibly meaningful journey.\nAbout Geshe Tenzin Namdak\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College. SUMMARY:Introduction to Tantra
DESCRIPTION:An advanced approach to enlightenment\nTantra in our tradition refers to a unique higher-level system of spiritual practice that can streamline one’s path to enlightenment. Incorporating rituals\, meditation\, mantra recitation\, and visualization\, we can transform ordinary activities\, emotions\, and challenges into opportunities for swift spiritual growth. Tantra trains practitioners to view all phenomena as inherently pure and sacred. This perspective breaks down dualistic thinking and fosters a profound sense of interconnectedness and reverence for life. Due to its emphasis on the union of wisdom and compassion it is considered an accelerated path to enlightenment. \nIn this 3-class course you will learn: \nwhat tantra is\nhow it works\nwhy it is a powerful form of practice\nabout the four classes of tantra\nto practice simple Kriya tantric methods\nto integrate tantra with Lamrim meditation for optimal results.\nYour teacher\nVenerable Amy Miller is a beloved spiritual teacher\, practitioner and Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition. SUMMARY:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist Centre
DESCRIPTION:Events for May 2025 – Jamyang London Buddhist CentreJoin us as we embark upon a 3-month exploration of this famous text. Guided by Geshe Tenzin Namdak\, we will delve into Arya Nagarjuna’s poetic instructions that convey the entire Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery.\nAbout the Author\nArya Nagarjuna (2nd-3rd century) is widely regarded as the second Buddha and the trailblazer of the Madhyamika school of Buddhist philosophy. His coming was prophesied by Shakyamuni himself as the teacher who would appear when the karma of beings was ripe\, to expound and clarify the Buddha’s profound teaching on emptiness.\nAbout the Text\nLetter to a Friend is a poem composed by Nagarjuna as a letter of advice to his friend\, King Gautamiputra\, who presided over the powerful kingdom of Satvahana. The Letter is a concise and comprehensive introduction to the entire path and practice of Buddhism. Widely studied by both lay and monastic\, the instructions therein are of special interest to those who wish to take up spiritual activity while continuing to live and work in society; they are meant to convey the whole meaning of the Dharma to the ordinary person in a language and style that are easy to understand. Despite its short length (123 verses)\, it covers the whole Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery; thus it is widely quoted by Tibet’s great masters and scholars in the many commentaries they have written on the Buddhist path.\nAbout the Teacher\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College. He is now Resident Teacher of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre.\nSchedule\nStarting on 6th May and running until the 22nd July\, 2025\nTuesday evenings | 18:30 – 20:00\nHow to join\nRegistration for the short course on Nagarjuna’s Letter to a Friend hasn’t opened yet but if you let us know your name and email address we’ll contact you when it does. SUMMARY:City Weekend: Karma
DESCRIPTION:Everything comes from the mind!\n“Everything depends on your motivation. The way you think creates your karma\, and your karma creates your life. By transforming your mind\, you can change your world.” – Lama Zopa Rinpoche \nKarma is the universal law of cause and effect\, wherein every thought\, word\, and action that we have and do create imprints in our consciousness that shape our present and future experiences. Tibetan Buddhism explains that due to this\, our mind then projects positive\, negative or neutral onto everything we encounter through our senses – and then happiness and suffering are activated. \nBy understanding this\, we can see how things are more fluid and changeable than we may think. As a result\, we can start fostering a sense of responsibility and intentionality in our lives and start living with more awareness and mindfulness. \nDuring this weekend\, Ven. Amy Miller will guide us through teachings and meditations on profound Buddhist concepts drawn from the unique teachings of Lama Zopa Rinpoche\, one of the founders of the FPMT. Ven. Amy will also offer study and meditation techniques of daily mindfulness practices to take home. This program is ideal for anyone who wishes to ignite or deepen their personal practice by relying on Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s heart advice. \nYour teacher\nVenerable Amy Miller is a beloved spiritual teacher\, practitioner and Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition. She has dedicated her life to sharing the profound teachings of Buddhism with the world. By virtue of their generosity\, the Buddha and the ordained sangha offer us the teachings\, and in exchange\, the lay community supports Dharma centers and the monastic community. This interdependence is essential for us to share the Dharma and continue our work to benefit all sentient beings. With your donation we support our teachers in their cost of living and we uphold our dharma center\, which is managed entirely by volunteers. \nThe suggested donation for this weekend is €85. For students and people with low income\, the suggested donation is €60. Please send us an email if you’d like to make use of this option.
