Land of Joy is a peaceful Tibetan Buddhist retreat center nestled in the beautiful Northumberland countryside of the UK. Founded as part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), Land of Joy provides an ideal environment for meditation, contemplation, and Buddhist study.

The center offers a diverse program of retreats, courses, and events throughout the year, led by experienced teachers and practitioners. These range from introductory meditation weekends to in-depth Buddhist philosophy courses and longer silent retreats. Land of Joy welcomes both beginners and experienced practitioners, creating a supportive community for spiritual growth.

The center’s facilities include comfortable accommodation, meditation halls, and extensive grounds that provide a tranquil setting for retreat. Land of Joy emphasizes creating the conditions for authentic retreat experiences, allowing participants to step away from daily distractions and develop their meditation practice.

Currently, Land of Joy is offering a mix of online and onsite events, including:

    • “The Nature of Perception” online course with Venerable Mary Reavey (Wednesdays, April 16-May 7, 2025, 6:00-7:30 PM GMT)

    • “Dharma for the Planetary Crisis” onsite retreat with Paula Chichester (May 2-5, 2025)

    • Additional retreat with Paula Chichester (May 9-13, 2025)
